  • Our education system is designed on the basis of the requirements of our vocational needs. Parents make sure we go to school to get good education. Education helps us in every sphere of our lives.

It is through education we learn to make use of our knowledge and channel our talents in the right direction. Without education we would be nowhere. But this is a recent requirement. In the 1970s and the 80s, high school education was enough. There were no niches fields back then that people could make a profession out of. Most of the people required basic education which would help them get a job. The jobs scene too, was different then. There was not much competition and people seemed to be content.

Therefore, many did not feel the need to pursue higher education. But times have changed and so has the requirement. High school education is not enough. If one needs to get a good job with a large firm or a multinational company, then they need to have a college degree of some sort.

Getting a college degree opens up various opportunities for students. They can apply for jobs they have always dreamt of and move upwards on the success scale. In a recent study conducted by the government it was seen that by 2030 the job requirement scene will change and so will the candidate requirement.

In 20 years time, there will be more jobs available but not all candidates will be eligible for the jobs. This is because these job opportunities will demand college degrees or more and the number of students going in for higher degrees will not be so much.

The scenario is grim because higher education, although very important, is becoming very expensive. Each year, the enrolment numbers go down due to financial crunches. Getting students’ aid is not that easy either given the current economic status in the country.

Students who are mere high school graduates will be left behind and by the time they decide to get a college degree, it will be late or the competition will have increased. The increase in competition in many ways works for the students.

This is because it motivates them to work harder and get that college degree. But this has its drawbacks as well. While one set of students might work harder the other set might just drop out of school. They could see it as an impossible dream because they cannot cope up with the competition and also the expenses are way too much.

This is where the government needs to step in to provide a clear perspective to the students. Alternative study options should be introduced as well to ease out the tensions the students face. Counselling sessions should be set where the students can find solutions to such problems. Things are only going to get tougher and hence, one needs to gear up for them.
