    The Department of Nanoscience and Biomedical Engineering (NANO-BME) at South Dakota Mines is seeking qualified applicants for a 9-month, full-time, benefited Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. This position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and run recruitment efforts for the department as a whole. This position is eligible for 1-month summer salary for program support activities. These activities will include participating in existing outreach efforts, such as those conducted by admissions and other campus entities, as well as developing new programing for exposing prospective students to careers in biomedical engineering, nanoscience, and nanoengineering, such as annual open houses, special events, or summer camps. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

    The department of Nanoscience and Biomedical Engineering offers an ABET-accredited BS in Biomedical Engineering as well as MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, as well as a certificate in Quantum Communications beginning in Fall 2024, with approximately 140 BS, MS and PhD students currently enrolled. The selected candidate should have substantial experience in teaching biomedical engineering courses and preferably industrial or academic experience in biomedical engineering and is expected to advocate for and contribute to the growth of our undergraduate Biomedical Engineering degree.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    •Teach graduate / undergraduate courses in Biomedical Engineering.
    •Support ABET accreditation data collection and analysis.
    •Support recruitment and retention efforts.
    •Support and / or develop summer programs such as Camp Biomed.
    •Act as a secondary advisor and point of contact for undergraduate students.

    Required Qualifications:
    •PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical & Biological Engineering, or a directly related field.
    •At least 3 year’s experience teaching at the university level.
    •Experience teaching Biomedical Engineering Fluid Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering Transport Phenomena.
    •Demonstrated student-oriented mindset, including the ability to advise and mentor students.
    •Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations.
