  • Davis & Elkins College is a residential institution that believes in the educational value of the residence life experience. For this reason we require all students to live on campus except those students living at home with their parents, married students, students with children, handicapped students with a need for facilities which the college is unable to provide, and independent students (NOT claimed as a dependant by their guardian(s))over 21 years of age.

The Office of Student Life assigns entering students to rooms. Students may mutually select their roommates and designate a preference for a particular residence hall. The Director of Residential Living and undergraduate Resident Assistants who provide administrative, advising, and programming services supervise the residence halls. Although these staff members have an important impact on the group living environment, the most significant influence comes from the residents themselves.

Students are encouraged to assume an active role in their hall governance. Hall Councils, floor units, or the Student Assembly discuss, for example, policies regarding visitation, quiet hours, security and disciplinary affairs. This approach is designed to promote the development of an active learning community in the halls and encourage individual students to make responsible decisions about themselves and others. Student initiative is also the stimulus for most residence hall programming. Educational, recreational and social activities are as varied as residents' interests and backgrounds. These events, both planned and impromptu, provide breadth and quality to the total learning experience.

There are four residence halls at Davis & Elkins College. They include Roxanna Booth Hall, Presidential Center, International Center, and Gribble Hall. For more detailed descriptions and photos of these facilities, go to the Virtual Tour and click on the buildings shown on the map.
