    Career Counseling Model

Our career counseling services focus on the four stages of the career development cycle:
    • self-assessment
    • exploring options
    • reality testing
    • decision-making and implementation

For those undecided Ferris Students or High School Students, interested in exploring career options, contemplating a career change or academic major change, the first and most critical stage in this cycle is self-assessment. In this stage, you explore your interests, skills, values and personality preferences as they relate to possible career and education alternatives. Once you have learned more about yourself, you can use that self-knowledge to identify occupations and/or majors of potential interest to you. Your confidential session with a licensed professional counselor can help you explore educational strategiescareer pathways, and career options using web exploration tools.

The counselor can recommend various workshops and help you arrange appointments with department heads and program professors. You can also visit job fairs, student activity days, and the Student Employment and Career Services Office to gain some real world experience. We are looking forward to helping you with these first steps.

The ECCC is located on the 3rd floor of the Starr building, STR 313. Counselors in the ECCC are available by appointment or on a walk-in basis. You can contact us by calling 1-800-4-FERRIS (1-800-433-7747) and ask for ext. 3057, or by calling (231) 591-3057.
