Visit Career Services starting in your first year of college and continuing throughout your time at Albertus to discover how we can help you develop realistic and flexible career goals that relate to your major and to future occupations. Learn the skills for lifelong career planning. Career counseling, available one-on-one by appointment with our Director of Career Services, provides information on any career-related issue or topic and helps you develop a plan to achieve your individual career goals. Discover how to create effective résumés that communicate your education, skills and background to a potential employer and prepare for your interview. Self-assessment tools connect your personality characteristics, interests and values to specific careers. When you know yourself, you build the essential foundation for success and can find career fields with the best fit for you. Assessments include the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and the Strong Interest Inventory®. AMC’s Career Center houses a 440-volume Career Library with resources for: Career planning, strategic career management and self-assessment Specific career paths and jobs Job search techniques, including résumés, cover letters, interviewing, networking, salary negotiations and professional etiquette Employer directories from a wide range of occupational fields, both local and national Graduate school information, including entrance requirements, entrance test preparation, how to apply and programs of study In the Career Center, you’ll also find full Internet access for job searches, a computer workstation with Microsoft Word for résumé preparation and job-search letter writing. On-campus recruiting events connect you with employers. You can discuss the company and may even interview for open positions. While you’re a current student or after you graduate, you’ll have access to recruiting events, posted weekly through the Jobs Just Inbox service. Career Preparation Course (CC 260), an in-depth, semester-long course about career planning topics, helps juniors and seniors: Identify short- and long-term career goals Assess skills, values, interests and life experiences Learn how their unique skills may fit into the workplace Strengthen professional communication skills Learn effective steps for career planning Develop skills in career research, résumé and cover letter writing, interviewing and job searching Career Services also supports AMC courses that offer hands-on experiences in a work environment through practica and academic internships.
